Rose of Sharon #1 and #2
MiniQuilts The Rose of Sharon was often an engagement or wedding quilt beginning in the 1850s. The appliquéd flower is made of two or three circles and typically has a scalloped edge. The various combinations of leaves and flowers were usually made in pink, green and white. A popular appliquéd quilt pattern originating in the 1850s was the Tulip. The many variations in this pattern all have the characteristic pointed tulip petals with one, two or three layers of color.
